Book the experience that fits
Check what admission includes and decide where extra spending helps.
Compare the cost and route before booking
Three practical worksheets turn a common Japan travel question into a checkable decision. Calculations run on this page only. They are planning estimates, not live fares or reservations.
1. Tokyo Subway Ticket break-even
Compare your planned Tokyo Metro + Toei Subway fares with a visitor subway pass. JR, Yurikamome, most private railways and airport trains are not included.
Compare planned eligible fares with the pass price.
Count only trips on covered Metro/Toei lines within the consecutive hours after first use. A separate airport or JR journey may still need an IC card or ticket.
2. Nationwide JR Pass break-even
A JR Pass is not automatically a saving. Compare the pass cost against the actual sum of your pass-eligible JR journeys in one continuous validity period.
Compare the pass cost with your itinerary.
A numerical saving does not override route restrictions: Nozomi and Mizuho require a separate special ticket, some operators are not covered, and eligibility rules apply.
3. Airport-to-hotel route selector
Start from the airport and your real destination, not the fastest advertised train. Account for luggage, terminal, arrival time, station exits and the final walk.
Select your arrival and destination for a tailored guide.
Check the operator's actual timetable and terminal. A direct bus may be easier with luggage if it serves your hotel; avoid claiming it will run after your flight lands.

Save the hotel address offline, choose a realistic airport route, keep a backup payment method and leave time for delays. A flexible first day is usually more useful than a long checklist.
